Top 10 Salesforce Winter ’26 Features for Admins

Updated September 04, 2025

It’s release season once again, and with Salesforce Winter ’26 finally here, wouldn’t you want to be the first to maximize the wave of new features? This release leans into improvements for Reports & Dashboards, Field History Tracking, and even List Views – simple tools that admins use every day to keep their orgs running smoothly.

You’ll want to get familiar with these before they hit production, so we’ve combed through the Winter ’26 release notes (so you don’t have to) and pulled out the top ten features most relevant to admins. Let’s dive in!

1.  Type-Ahead Search in List Views

We’ve all been there – scrolling endlessly through a long list of fields when setting up or editing a list view. It’s especially frustrating when you don’t have your mouse and the field you need is buried toward the end of the alphabet (looking at you, “Website”).

Now, instead of scrolling forever, you can simply type the first letter of the field name, and the selector will jump you straight there. This works in both the Available Fields and Visible Fields columns: a small update, but a really handy one!

2. Disable Formulas in Exported Reports

If you spend a lot of time in Excel, you know that formulas start with an equal sign. That’s fine when you’re working inside Excel, but it can cause trouble when exporting Salesforce reports to CSV

If a field value happens to begin with =, Excel might misinterpret it as a formula when you open the file, leading to some confusing results, like this:

Admins can now avoid this by disabling formulas in exported reports for better control over data. This adds an apostrophe before any field values that start in =, +, -, etc., so that the exported report doesn’t mistake it for a formula.

Before the export, it even reminds you that formulas are disabled:

This is another Beta feature that can be enabled from Setup > Reports and Dashboards Settings.

3. Reference Line in Dashboard Charts

Remember when reference lines were limited to charts in Reports? It could be frustrating when your report chart showed a benchmark line, but the same chart on your dashboard didn’t.

With Winter ’26, this changes: dashboard charts now support reference lines too! Just like in Reports, you can set the value and choose the color. These visual indicators make it easy to benchmark performance against targets or thresholds, and can be useful for sales goals, case resolution times, or any other KPI that matters to your team.

4. Enhanced Field History Tracking

There are now fewer clicks involved when dealing with Field History Tracking in Winter ‘26. Previously, opening Setup > Field History Tracking only gave you a list of your objects, the number of tracked fields for each object, and a link to view more details, which in turn opens a panel on the right for you to add or remove tracked fields.

The new interface gives you a clearer overview of field tracking in your org. You can now see the total number of objects with trackable fields, the total number of trackable and high-risk fields, and your field tracking limit per object.

This serves as a handy reminder when you’re approaching your limits, helping you prioritize which fields are truly worth tracking. Plus, you can enable or disable field history tracking for each object directly from this page – no extra clicks required.

The familiar “View” link for each object has been replaced with an expand arrow on the left. Instead of opening a panel on the right, expanding now reveals the object’s fields directly below the list item.

These fields are organized into tabs based on their Data Sensitivity Level, making it easier to focus on what matters most. For example, you might prioritize tracking only confidential fields, ensuring you’re maximizing your tracking limits.

5. User Field History Tracking (Beta)

Before, the User object wasn’t even an option in your list of objects for Field History Tracking. That changes this Winter ’26, as it introduces the ability to track field changes on Users.

Admins can now keep tabs on old and new field values, a timestamp of when the change happened, and who made the update.

Though Beta for now, you can enable it under Setup > User Management Settings.

6. Unassign Permission Set Licenses Automatically

This update immediately brought back memories from my time in Salesforce Support. I can’t tell you how many cases I handled where admins were scratching their heads, wondering why they couldn’t assign Field Service Mobile permissions to a new technician.

On the surface, everything looked fine: the permission sets were assigned correctly. But the real culprit? All of their Field Service Mobile permission set licenses had quietly been used up.

The tricky part was that removing a permission set from a user didn’t free up the license. It just sat there while still tied to the user, until someone manually unassigned it.

With this release, Salesforce finally takes that manual step off your plate. Now, when you remove a permission set (or group), the related license is unassigned with it automatically.

7. Multi-Column List View Sorting (Generally Available)

Remember when you could only sort a list view by a single column? Those days are over. With this update, now generally available, you can sort by up to five columns at once, giving you a much clearer and more flexible way to organize your data.

A new column sort icon in the upper right lets you choose which fields to sort by, set the order, and even decide if each one should be ascending or descending.

Salesforce remembers your setup until you change it or clear it using the Reset Column Sorting option under the gear icon.

8. Multi-Language Translations for Report and Dashboard Labels

Admins can now provide multi-language translations for report and dashboard labels, making analytics more accessible across global teams. This includes metadata labels such as Description and Report Name, Description, Widget Title, etc.

These can now display in a user’s local language, making Salesforce easier to understand and navigate.

9. Retain Report Table Settings in Dashboards (Relaunched for Winter ’26)

Previously, when adding a Lightning Table to your dashboard, you only had the option to use the chart settings from your report.

Now, you have the option to remember and use your table settings, such as groupings, custom formulas, and bucketing – right on your dashboard. It’s a small but mighty productivity win. Do note that this feature can be enabled from Setup > Reports and Dashboards Settings and is Beta for now.

This feature was due to be part of the Summer ’25 Release, but was removed and then relaunched as part of Winter ’26.

10. New Setup Home Page

The refreshed Setup Home gives admins a cleaner, more intuitive experience. The redesign removes the Create button on the upper right and makes the Setup sidebar accessible even when you’re working in Object Manager.

If you’re used to accessing your most recently used items from here, the new Setup Home offers recommended tasks and feature exploration through dedicated tiles as well.

Final Thoughts

Winter ’26 delivers practical improvements that make reporting smarter, everyday setup tasks faster, and the overall admin experience smoother. The normal tasks that admins face every day can go from accessing list views to auditing user changes, and may feel like ordinary, routine work already.

But as many of you know, small friction points add up. Any seemingly minor enhancements can become so valuable, especially when they remove unnecessary hassle and give admins more time to focus on what really matters.

This release is packed with updates designed to keep admins efficient, effective, and in control. So, be sure to test them in your sandbox and share your favorites with your team (or in the comments below)!

Is it just me or does this feel like the best list of "True to the Core" enhancements in a long time?
