Ready to warm up your admin skills? Salesforce Winter ’25 is here, bringing a cool array of new features designed to make your life as a Salesforce Admin easier and more efficient. Whether you’re looking to streamline your workflows, enhance data management, or simply enjoy a smoother admin experience, this release has something for you.
From nifty new tools to upgraded functionalities, I’ve rounded up the top 10 features that will help you keep your Salesforce org running like a well-oiled machine.
1. Configure Record Highlights in Lightning App Builder
The Dynamic Highlights Panel allows you to dynamically display fields in the highlights panel of your Lightning record page, focusing your users on the most important fields. The Dynamic Highlights Panel can replace the compact layout and old highlights panel on your record pages.
Using the Dynamic Highlights Panel, you can add up to 12 fields, and these fields can be filtered based on criteria you determine. For each Dynamic Highlight Panel, one Primary Field has to be selected, and it is recommended to keep it as the record’s Name since this will be the header.
You can also configure the Dynamic Highlights Panel for the mobile app, granting further customization to the mobile Record Pages.
2. Enable Dynamic Highlights Panel and Dynamic Forms on Mobile With One Click
Quickly and easily roll out Dynamic Forms AND Dynamic Highlights Panel on mobile devices with just one click.
3. Make Record Fields Stand Out With Conditional Formatting
You can apply conditional formatting to fields on Dynamic Forms-enabled pages. You can customize icons and colors to show, hide, or change based on the criteria and rules you set. These conditions can be based on the value of a specific field or the values of other fields on the page.
For example, you have a Lead Relationship field on the Lead record page with the values of Hot, Warm, and Cold. Using conditional formatting, you could create rules to show a green happy-face icon when the field value is Hot, a yellow neutral face when the value is Warm, and a red sad-face icon when the value is Weak. I think you could have plenty of admin fun with this new feature!
Note: Please add formatting responsibly unless playing in your own dev org!
4. Add Calculated Fields to Your Lightning Reports With Einstein Generative AI
Einstein Report Formula Generation uses Einstein Generative AI to create Summary Formulas and Row-Level Formulas for you in reports. Simply describe your calculator in simple, layperson terms, and Einstein will suggest a formula.
- Go to the Einstein tab
- Describe the calculation you want
- Once happy with the suggested formula, click Insert Formula
- Einstein will fill in the fields for you
Don’t forget to give your feedback to help Salesforce improve.
I have mixed feelings about some of the new AI features in Salesforce designed to help admins, such as Einstein for Formulas or Einstein for Flow, and now Einstein Report Formula Generation. While these tools are designed to help you get things done faster, there is a risk you rely on Einstein too much and never learn how to create things without AI.
So, while I do think features like Einstein Report Formula Generation are useful, I would strongly encourage you to try and learn to create formulas yourself. It will help you learn more about logic and often creates those “ah-ha” moments when you realize what other formulas you could create.
Note: This is only for Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions with Einstein 1 Sales Edition or Einstein 1 Service Edition and the DC Report GPT add-on.
5. Do More With Custom Report Types (Beta)
Discover your report types with ease and craft custom list views for them using the revamped Custom Report page in Setup. You can now edit report details and adjust object relationships right from the summary page, which has been streamlined for better usability. The new layout editor for report types offers more flexibility for managing custom fields and sections. Plus, you can add up to 1,000 fields in the report type layout using lookup fields.
- Find and drag fields to the section you want them in
- Search for fields, view details, and customize the field name
- Click Lookup Fields to find further fields and add them to the report type
6. Get Better Performance for List Views on Custom and Standard Objects
You can expect faster list views from the Salesforce Winter ‘25 release as list views for custom and standard objects now render with Lightning Web Components (LWC) instead of Aura. There are several other ways you can improve list view performance – check out the article below!
7. Make Inline Edits With the Enhanced User List View
The User List View has a new enhanced mode in Winter ‘25 which gives it a modern UI and allows you to configure the list view exactly the same as you would any other list view in Salesforce. View, sort, and filter, plus modify records without navigating away from the list view.
8. Improved User Access Summary Page
The improved User Access Summary page is a consolidated view of your user information so you can see this information at a glance.
9. Get Insight into How a User’s Permissions Are Granted
Clicking the Access Granted By will bring up a pop-up where you can see the Permission Sets, Permission Set Groups, or the Profile that is granting access – no more endless searching!
10. See How Object Access Is Granted in Object Manager
Get a complete view of which permission sets, permission set groups, and profiles provide access to an object, and see exactly what level of access they grant.
Bonus
The Salesforce Mobile app will see significant enhancements in Winter ’25 – on top of the more general updates, such as the ability to access an embedded link from reports directly, the seller experience really has been transformed. Available from October 2024, the new seller-focused experience will empower users to quickly review their activities, update records, and interact with Einstein through voice!
Summary
That’s a wrap on my top 10 hottest (or coldest?) features for Salesforce Admins in the Salesforce Winter ‘25 release. Whilst writing this article, I was definitely fangirling over some of these amazing new features, in particular the Dynamic Highlights Panel and conditional formatting for fields.
