10 New Salesforce Flow Features in Summer ‘25

By Tim Combridge

Every time the Salesforce release notes are published, I jump straight to the Salesforce Flow section – there’s always so much great content there that will make the lives of Salesforce Admins a lot easier. The Summer ‘25 update has introduced some wonderful new features as well as the usual quality-of-life improvements that come with each release; all of which are worth shouting about!

I must warn you that the Summer ‘25 release is a MASSIVE release. You may be like me and struggle to contain your excitement. The title says ‘10 new features’, but where I normally have one bonus… well, you’ll just have to wait and see! Here’s my summary of all that’s ‘coming soon’ to Flow…

1.  Test Flows for Error Handling

Whenever you’re working with Data Cloud-Triggered Flows or Record-Triggered Flows in Summer ‘25, you have the ability to build Tests that you can automate to make sure your Flow is functioning as expected. Summer ‘25 enhances this functionality by allowing you to check if a Create, Update, or Delete Records has run into an error. This also works for Action elements.

2. Send Email Action Updates

The Send Email Action has received a lot of love in recent years, and the Summer ‘25 brings this to a whole new level. Rather than having all the properties of the Action in a single list, they are now organized into sections – Receiver, Sender, and Email Content.

There is also a new WYSIWYG editor that you can use to construct an email from within the Send Email Action in Rich Text.

There are so many new features and changes that are worth diving into; make sure you read more in the Release Notes link below.

3. Screen Flow Preview Sizes

When you’re building out a Screen Flow, there’s no doubt you’re curious as to what your screens will look like on different devices. Summer ‘25 brings the ability to preview your screens in either small, medium, or large sizes to preview the different methods that users will experience your Flow.

4. Flow Approval Processes

We’re so close to seeing the end of classic Approval Processes, I can feel it! I’m sure when you navigate to the Approval Processes Setup page, you will too. You’ll be greeted with a new banner suggesting that you use Flow Approval Processes instead.

We’ve seen this before when Workflow Rules and Process Builder were planned for retirement in favor of Flow. The end is nigh for classic Approval Processes!

5. Debug Flows More Easily by Viewing Output Resources in Flow Builder

When you’re configuring a Subflow or Action in a Flow, you can now easily see the outputs in the View Output Resources section. If you then hover over the information icon, you will also be able to see the Name, Label, and Type of the data that is being returned into the parent Flow.

You can also manually assign the outputs to variables within your Flow.

6. Manage Time-Specific Data Easily

If you’re working where the time of day matters but not the date, then you’re in luck! Summer ‘25 brings support for the new Time data type to Flow.

This can be handy for things like communication times (i.e., when to send an email) or checking that actions have occurred in business hours.

7. Completely Overhauled Flow Debugging

Debugging Flows in Summer ‘25 has received the biggest overhaul since its inception. Now you can expand it to take advantage of more of your available screen real estate, you can collapse and expand sections as needed, and you’ll have an easier time copying the debug logs to your clipboard.

Andreea Doroftei has written an in-depth article going into the details of this new Debug Panel – make sure to check it out here

8a. Display Choices in Tiles With the Visual Picker Component in Screen Flows

Do you like Picklists or Radio Buttons, but wish there was something a little fancier? Wish no longer, as Summer ‘25 introduces the brand new Visual Picket component!

This gives your users something a lot more exciting to select from inside your Screen Flows. The Visual Picker will display an icon within a button, and you can choose to display either small, medium, or large buttons in an array.

8b. Help Users Make Selections Faster by Adding Icons to Choice Resources

To support the new arrival of the Visual Picker Screen Component, Choices have been enhanced! The new Customize User Interface section allows you to select an icon to display for that Choice.

Keep in mind, this is specific to the choice, not to the application of it. In the scenario above, I’ve selected the utility:down icon – this is how the Swipe Left choice will be displayed everywhere that it is used in my Flow.

9. Get More Control Over Component and Field Layout in Screen Flows

Gone are the days of needing to put every Screen Component into a Section just to be able to adjust the width of it on the page! Summer ‘25 introduces a new Style panel to each standard Component, allowing you to adjust the width on the fly.

10. Get Better Usability With the File Upload Enhanced Flow Screen Component (Beta)

The File Upload component has been enhanced in Summer ‘25 – now you can require your user to upload a file before they can proceed in a Screen Flow. Additionally, this component will now work in both Aura and LWR Sites.

Notably, this is a beta feature and, as such, will need to be enabled first. You can do this from the Setup menu and navigate to the Salesforce Files > General Settings page. Enable “Use the File Upload Lightning web component for Flows”.

BONUS: Multiple! Lightning Round

Normally, at the end of my Flow highlights for each release, I’ll throw in a bonus feature that I’ve found… but Summer ‘25 is something else. This is one of the biggest releases we’ve seen for a long time, so instead of just one extra bonus, I’ve decided to do a lightning round and quickly throw in a handful of extra goodies!

Bonus 1: Manage Elements Faster in Auto-Layout Mode for All Flow Types

Auto-Layout mode for Flow has received a new lick of paint with new element cards to replace the older square icons.

Bonus 2: Get Related Records Faster (Beta)

Rather than getting an Account and then getting related Contacts using two separate Get Records elements, you have the option to Get Related Records and query them together! This is a beta feature and must be enabled before use.

Bonus 3: Find More Resources with Expanded Search (Beta)

You have a lot more flexibility when searching for a resource in your Flow – click the Expanded Search button to try it out for yourself.

Bonus 4: Select Resources Efficiently for More Elements When Adding Fields and Values

With smarter grouping and easy-to-access labels, finding the right resource in a search box is easy. Pair this with the aforementioned Expanded Search, and you’ll have no problems at all in finding the right resource!

Bonus 5: Touch Gestures and Keyboard Shortcuts

The Flow Canvas comes to life like never before if you’re a trackpad or touchscreen user – simply pinch to zoom in or out, and your Flow will zoom in and out like magic.

If you’re a bit more old-school and prefer to use your keyboard (that wasn’t an insult, I’m in this group too!), then you’ll appreciate the updated keyboard shortcuts as well.
