The Shirtforce Story: T-shirts & Charitable Causes

By Will Turner

Shirtforce was founded by London Developer Community and London’s Calling conference leader, Todd Halfpenny. It was created as a community project, supplying humorous t-shirt designs to those in the tech industry, primarily focused at those in the Salesforce ecosystem whilst at the same time providing a way to generate money for good causes.

As with all good projects, it started with a vague idea, and snowballed.

Todd likes swag, especially funny t-shirts. He also had a few tshirt design ideas that he would buy… if only they were available for purchase. Todd had already designed a couple of t-shirts for MobileCaddy (an ISV he works for) and he’d worn them to Salesforce events. It was at the Partner Forum in London 2018, where he wore a “Forward Looking Statement” t-shirt that he’d designed, that he found that others in the Ohana liked them too.

That gave Todd an idea: not only could he design t-shirts for the Salesforce community, he could also use this as a way to raise money for worthy causes at the same time, and
so, Shirtforce was conceived.

After creating a few designs sparked from inspirational chats with fellow community members, a few enthusiastic fans submitted their own designs too. Word began to spread via social media and community events, and the project took off. There are now 40-odd designs, each with a variety of colour, sizing and fit options, available to be shipped globally.

Each quarter, all profits from sales go to charitable causes, chosen by the awesome #TrailblazerCommunity. More tees for the community, means more money raised for charity. With 40 designs for you to choose from, including the famed “Troublemaker” hoodie, there’s no shortage of options for you to purchase and donate your support.

To date, Shirtforce has raised in excess of $3500 for charities and organisations including Cancer Research UK, Salesforce Supermums, Prostate Cancer UK and the El Paso Shooting Victims Fund, and are always on the lookout for more causes to support. Charities, NFP’s and worthy causes that are close to the heart of the Salesforce ecosystem are always top of the list.

During these times of social distancing Shirtforce has also partnered with some of the Salesforce Community conferences such as Nonprofit Dreamin and London’s Calling to supply the much-loved T-Shirts these events are famed for.

What is Shirtforce doing today?

The current charity Shirtforce has chosen to support is the Campaign for Female Education – a pan-African movement revolutionising how education for girls is delivered. Shirtforce also continues to push out new designs:
