What’s On In London?
Sights You Shouldn’t Miss
London has so much history, it would be a shame not to experience it while you’re in town. If you’ve not seen any of these popular attractions, now’s your chance!
- Salesforce Tower: While you can’t just wander into the tower, you can treat yourself to a meal at the Duck & Waffle or Sushisamba, both located at the top of the building – or take a peek at the aquarium from the outside.
- Buckingham Palace: One of the nicest walks in London: down The Mall to the huge royal residence. There’s plenty of green space in the surrounding area, making for a wholly enjoyable jaunt.
- The Tower of London: Inside the tower lie the Crown Jewels, Beefeaters, crows, and more. A quintessentially British experience!
- The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben: These gothic revival buildings are a staple of the London skyline. But did you know, Big Ben is actually the bell inside the tower, not the building itself (or Ben McCarthy!).
- Tower Bridge: While London boasts many bridges, this one may be the most famous and the most photogenic of them all.
- The London Eye: Located right by the Thames, the London Eye pods offer panoramic views of the London skyline. Book for sunset to fully appreciate the beauty of the city.
- Platform 9 ¾, Kings Cross Station: Let’s be honest, we all love the world of Harry Potter.
Cultural Experiences
Museums
For those of you who love learning, London has an excellent selection of museums – and many of them are free to enter! Here are a few of the best:
- The British Museum: The largest collection of human history, art, and culture in the world.
- Natural History Museum: Learn about natural phenomena with hands-on exhibits – featuring the colossal whale skeleton, Hope.
- The Wallace Collection: Enjoy antiques, sculptures, artwork, and armor, all set within the former townhouse of the Seymour family.
- Science Museum: Award-winning exhibitions, iconic objects, and stories of incredible scientific achievement
- Victoria and Albert Museum: The world’s largest museum of applied arts, decorative arts, and design.
- Tate Modern: If modern and contemporary art is your style, this international collection is for you.
The West End
Got a free evening? The theater shows in the West End always deliver, and there’s something for everyone. Plus, last-minute tickets are often heavily discounted.
Here are some suggestions depending on what you’re in the mood for:
- Beloved classics: The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, and Cabaret.
- Modern masterpieces: The Devil Wears Prada, Moulin Rouge!, and Six The Musical.
- Tearjerkers: Les Misérables, Wicked, and Hamilton.
- Musical comedies: The Book of Mormon and The Play That Goes Wrong.
Parks and Green Spaces
If you’re blessed with good weather, there is one place where all London locals will descend: the park! There’s a lot of green space across the city, and each offers a slightly different experience. Here are some of the most popular:
- Regent’s Park: One of the Royal Parks, with diverse plant life, picturesque gardens, and a boating lake.
- St James’s Park: Another Royal Park with a lake, but this one has pelicans! Equally enjoyable while walking around as when sitting and people watching.
- Battersea Park: Situated on the south bank of the River Thames. Grab yourself a coffee, have a wander, and why not feed the ducks?
- Richmond Park: The largest of the Royal Parks, home to hundreds of deer, which you can still see roaming freely. We’d suggest renting a bike to see more of the landscape.
- The Green Park: Located by Buckingham Palace, this Royal Park is a great place to take a break and enjoy a peaceful lunch amidst the bustling city.
Summary
There is so much to do at Salesforce events and in London, and unless you live in the city there’s no way you can do it all in a couple of days. But by carefully curating your experience, you will come away with memories to last a lifetime!
