New Salesforce Low-code & Pro-code App Building Capabilities for Admins & Developers

It’s no surprise that IT leaders are turning to low-code tools more than ever to meet the demands for new apps and processes from business departments; 96% of IT leaders say they’ve experienced an increased demand for these over the past year, which has increased 88% of respondents’ workload.

To meet these demands, Salesforce is debuting new low-code and pro-code products and innovations that empower everyone within an organization, regardless of technical skill or role, to create and ship apps on a single platform.

“Low-code” are the functionalities that empower more team members to build apps and workflows using ‘clicks not code’, alleviating burden from technical team members to focus their energy where it’s required. “Pro-code” tools will continue to elevate the Developer experience, a big focus of which is to advance collaboration.

Here’s a rundown of what TrailheaDX’s Platform Main Show will showcase, and what we know so far…

What’s New with Salesforce “Low-code”?

Empowering more team members to build Salesforce apps and automation – coding knowledge not required!

Einstein Data Detect

Automate data compliance.

NEW: Einstein Data Detect ensures organizations adhere to data privacy laws by using AI and machine learning to discover and protect sensitive user data. Einstein Data Detect automates the discovery of sensitive information and misclassified data fields, prompting organizations to take immediate steps to protect customer data.

Dynamic Interactions

Build interactive apps with low code.

Dynamic Interactions are interactive components such as a list, a data entry form, a chart or a map. Whilst the initial component is created by a developer, it can then be added to Salesforce layouts by the Administrator who can control how the component interacts with other components on the page and what action it should take. These components are reusable, so they only need to be created once, and can then be used repeatedly.

Einstein Automate

Create intelligent workflows to automate tasks.

Einstein Automate combines artificial intelligence, data integration and industry-specific workflows in a single platform, so businesses can go digital faster, automating complex processes in days, not months. This brings together Flow Orchestrator, Mulesoft Composer, Salesforce Industries, and more.

  • Flow Orchestrator: helps compose workflows that automate complex, multi-user processes (image above)
  • MuleSoft Composer for Salesforce automates integrations from disparate apps and data sources to Salesforce without code (image below)
  • Pre-built solutions on the Salesforce AppExchange can streamline processes in line with what’s worked for other organizations in their industry.
  • OmniStudio, a suite of no-code tools and pre-built guided experiences.

DevOps Center

DevOps Center is the centralized location for tracking progress, managing governance, and collaborating on changes in Salesforce.

DevOps Center helps developers and creators launch apps and experiences faster by identifying work items, integrating them with source control systems, and migrating changes across testing sandboxes, all without custom code.

What’s New with Salesforce “Pro-code”?

“Pro-code” tools will continue to elevate the Developer experience, a big focus of which is to advance collaboration.

NEW: CLI Unification

Streamline development with a single command line interface (CLI).

NEW: CLI Unification gives developers a single command line interface CLI to build anything on Salesforce. Use cross-cloud commands to manage not just platform resources, but also Heroku, Mulesoft, Tableau, and more.

CLI Unification empowers teams to deliver faster, higher quality releases in a single tool through source control integration, and the ability to hook into continuous integration and delivery pipelines to automate testing and deployment for any Salesforce project.

Customer Identity Plus

Consolidate customer accounts for a 360 degree view of customers.

As organizations increase the number of digital touchpoints like mobile apps and web portals, customers are forced to create new logins for each, making it difficult for organizations to gain a single view of the customer.

NEW: Customer Identity Plus enables developers to integrate consumer-grade identity capabilities for organizations with high numbers of monthly active users, to consolidate and manage customer identities.

Customer Identity Plus enables developers to easily integrate an identity layer into existing apps, creating a consistent customer experience.

Salesforce Functions

3rd Image: a Salesforce Flow invoking an Apex action and Function.

Run computationally heavy operations on-demand.

Salesforce Functions is a service that lets organizations deploy code in a serverless environment that runs and scales on-demand. Salesforce Functions will offer many of the same features offered by Heroku, such as the concept of buildpacks, add-ons, private and public spaces, etc. A key differentiator between the two is that you will be able to apply the concept of containerisation more natively to the Salesforce platform with Salesforce Functions.

Functions also empowers teams to accelerate productivity by making it easy for developers to adopt common industry languages and their supporting ecosystems, as well as their development tools of choice.

What’s Available, and When?

  • MuleSoft Composer for Salesforce, as well as all AppExchange and OmniStudio solutions are generally available today.
  • Flow Orchestrator is expected to be in pilot in Summer ‘21.
  • Einstein Data Detect and Customer Identity Plus are expected to be generally available in Summer ‘21.
  • Dynamic Interactions, Salesforce Functions and CLI Unification are expected to be generally available in the Winter ’22 release (around Sept/Oct 2021).
  • DevOps Center is currently in pilot and expected to be generally available in Spring ’22.

  1. Hi Lucy, very good article!
Did you know what are the costs of these features?
From what I’ve seen those involving Mulesoft already come in as ad-on.
Will any of the others come in as available features in the standard Sales/Service Cloud licenses? (not add-on)

    1. Hi Leonardo, sorry – I can’t confirm those details. Best to check with your Account Executive at Salesforce as they will know exactly how the licensing will work. Hopefully the majority will be included as standard!

  2. Hi Carol,
DevOps Center is patterned after Copado. They use work items (user stories), promotions, and are based on Salesforce. That said, DevOps Center is six years behind Copado and other commercial tools for Salesforce DevOps. This means that they have no integrations other than with GitHub cloud, no capability to track test runs, no ability to automate merges, etc. They also can’t move data, manage Vlocity or changes other than Salesforce metadata, etc.
It’s great that Salesforce is getting around to this, but it’s not fair to compare DevOps Center to a tool like Copado.

Full disclosure: I work for Copado
