You may have missed that a new category went live on the AppExchange at the end of last week. This new “Data Management” category will list apps for extending Data Cloud – built on and for Data Cloud. There are also recommendations for which consultancies to ask for expert advice.
We’ll explore three main apps, and judging by the focus of Data Cloud as the epicenter of the Salesforce platform, these listings will certainly grow in number over time.
1. Query Workspaces by Salesforce Labs
Write, execute, and save SQL queries into multiple workspaces. As one reviewer put succinctly “this is essentially the Query API with a UI”.
As you can see, the interface is split into vertical tabs by Data Model objects, Data Lake objects, and Calculated Insights.
Data Lake objects are further split into Profile, Engagement, and Related properties.
Clicking on a property inserts it into the query canvas. The table below the canvas pulls a preview of the SQL query results.
You can have multiple queries on-the-go.
As part of the Salesforce Labs program, this app is free.
Pumping poor quality data into Data Cloud will only exacerbate the issues you’ve already been facing. Remember, Data Cloud is a harmonization tool, not a deduplication solution.
On a mission to improve data quality for Data Cloud, Cuneiform by PeerNova is one to watch. Cuneiform acts as a data quality check layer during multiple stages of working with data in Data Cloud:
Assess data stream content (e.g. which fields are populated) and pull a measure of reliability (which you can monitor on an ongoing basis, not just a one-off metric).
Guides you in building your model, mappings, and data governance decisions you should be making.
Re-processing poor data sets will waste your credits for generating unified profiles. Best to nip data issues ‘in the bud’, first time around.
Monitor storage and database growth.
This quick overview likely doesn’t do justice to what this app is capable of. Founded by an ex-Salesforce employee who has a long history with Data Cloud (even during its conception), I’m sure you’ll find this app feature-rich.
Adding parameters to URLs (UTMs) can be a fiddly task – not to mention what reporting you could end up missing out on if the naming convention (parameter syntax) is formatted incorrectly.
Camptag Taxonomy Auditor is a visual auditing tool that helps you identify errors in your campaign URLs. Examples include: “whitespace found in parameter” (a space would essentially break your URL), “consecutive parameter found after parameter” (where a double && is present), “value doesn’t exist for utm_source” (where you have forgotten to add a source value), and duplicate campaigns.
Select a data stream, and the URL field in that data stream, to run an audit.
A dashboard populates dimensions with issues, and errors by categories, so you can visually see where your bug-bears are.
Available on a monthly or annual subscription.
Featured review:
“Finally, an easy to use tool to audit data at the earliest stage of getting data in shape. This makes implementation/onboarding so much quicker and data science teams so much more productive.”
The AppExchange is a great place to find apps to extend your Salesforce platforms – giving you additional capabilities and solving any problems you may be having.
With a growing focus on Data Cloud, more apps to expand the platform will start appearing. These three should get you started, but be sure to check out the others available in the Data Management category.
