What a year it has been for Salesforce in 2023. AI is definitely the name of the game, and there have been plenty of other exciting updates along the way.
Keep reading to find out the four most important updates for Salesforce Admins in 2023, plus a few honorable mentions!
1. Permissions on Profiles Are Retiring… But Not Just Yet
In January 2023, Salesforce announced the end of life for permissions on profiles. Retirement was due in the Spring ‘26 release; however, in December, Salesforce released an update to say that they will not be enforcing the change come Spring ‘26.
Everybody, breathe a sigh of relief! That said, Salesforce recommends you adopt a permission set led security model, as future enhancements will be mostly for permission sets and permission set groups.
2. You Should Be Well on Your Way to Completing Your Flow Migration
The retirement of Workflow Rules and Process Builder processes was announced at Dreamforce in 2021. In the past year, the ability to create new Workflow Rules and Process Builder processes has been switched off. Although you can still edit these existing automations, any new automation has to be built in Flow.
In 2022, Hubbl Diagnostics found that only about 12% of declarative automation had been migrated to Flow, leaving a staggering 19M hours of Workflow Rule migration and approximately 5M hours of Process Builder migration effort.
The Migrate to Flow tool was updated to support the migration of Process Builder processes in Spring ‘23.

There have been significant enhancements to Flow Builder’s functionality in 2023. Be sure to follow our release updates and check out our brand-new Flow cheat sheet!
3. Dynamic Pages are Redefining the User Experience
Dynamic Forms for Standard Objects
As promised at Dreamforce ‘22, Salesforce has extended Dynamic Forms to support hundreds of standard objects! Specifically, support has been extended to the majority of LWC-enabled standard objects (Lighting Web Component enabled).
Dynamic Forms are not available on objects that do not support Lighting Web Components, including campaigns, tasks, and products. To ascertain if an object supports Dynamic Forms, edit the record page on the Lightning App Builder – if you see the Fields tab in the component panel, Dynamic Forms are available.

Dynamic Forms for Mobile
Dynamic Forms will also be generally available for mobile starting with the Winter ‘24 release. Enable “Dynamic Forms on Mobile” from the Salesforce mobile app Setup.

View All for Dynamic Related Lists
Dynamic related lists were an amazing new feature in 2022 but, unfortunately, were missing a critical piece of functionality – the ability to View All records in a related list.
From Spring ‘23, dynamic related lists include a View All link so that users can navigate to see the full list of related records.
Dynamic Actions for Standard Objects
Previously only available for account, case, contact, lead, and opportunity for desktop, dynamic actions were made available for all standard objects in the Spring ‘23 release.
Instead of scanning an endless list of actions, your users will be presented with a simple choice relevant to their role, profile, or when a record meets certain criteria.
4. The Future is AI
2023 has been the year for artificial intelligence! Einstein GPT was announced at TrailblazerDX ‘23, with further exciting announcements at Dreamforce ‘23, such as Einstein Copilot.
Einstein GPT is a powerful AI tool that combines public and private AI models with CRM data. This allows users to ask natural language prompts directly within Salesforce CRM. The result is AI-generated content that is continuously adapted to changing customer information and needs. This can save users a significant amount of time, as they no longer have to manually create content.
To keep up with the AI landscape, why not check out the AI Associate certification, also released in 2023? The AI Associate certification is an entry-level certification designed for professionals of all backgrounds to increase their knowledge of artificial intelligence and the surrounding topics, such as security and ethics.
Honorable Mentions
Free Salesforce Integration User Licenses
Announced at TrailblazerDX ‘23, Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited edition orgs now receive five free Salesforce Integration user licenses, with additional licenses billed at $10 each.
Create Personalized Report Filters
Think of this new capability as a bit like creating a dynamic dashboard, where the dashboard is set to view as the logged-in user, giving every user who looks at it their own personalized view.
You can now create a dynamic report filter based on the viewing user so that they view records pertinent to them. For example, instead of creating multiple reports that are filtered by specific opportunity owners, you can use a relative value to filter by Opportunity Owner equals $USER (the current user viewing the report).

Align Fields Horizontally in Field Sections
This change horizontally aligns fields with their neighbors in the same row, improving the look of pages. In the example below, the image on the left is without alignment and the image on the right is with alignment – notice the spacing and alignment of the “Phone” field!

Track Field History for Activities
You can now track up to six fields for Tasks and Events when you turn on field history tracking for Activities. This one was long overdue in my opinion!
Intelligence View for Leads and Contacts
Once enabled via Setup, Lead Intelligence View and Contact Intelligence View display useful activity metrics on the lead and contact tabs. Previously, these tabs only displayed List Views.
