Recent discussion around Salesforce’s nonprofit products has created some confusion, particularly regarding the status of the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) and what new organizations receive through the Power of Us Program.
To be clear, NPSP has not been discontinued and remains available and supported. However, Salesforce’s nonprofit portfolio is evolving, and the company is clearly positioning Agentforce Nonprofit as its primary innovation path moving forward. Here is what nonprofits need to know…
Agentforce Nonprofit vs. Agentforce 360 for Nonprofits: Clarifying the Terminology
Before we dive into the details, the current confusion stems from Salesforce’s recent product renaming, so let’s clarify some things.
Agentforce 360 for Nonprofits is the umbrella branding for Salesforce’s full nonprofit solution suite. It represents the broader ecosystem of tools, data capabilities, and AI-driven functionality tailored for nonprofit organizations.
Agentforce Nonprofit, by contrast, is simply the new name for what was previously known as Nonprofit Cloud. The product itself has not disappeared, but has been rebranded under Salesforce’s wider Agentforce strategy.
To put it simply:
- Agentforce 360 for Nonprofits = the overarching nonprofit solution ecosystem.
- Agentforce Nonprofit = the renamed Nonprofit Cloud product.
So when discussing roadmap and innovation, references to Agentforce Nonprofit relate specifically to the modern Nonprofit Cloud architecture, not the entire 360 solution umbrella.
What the Power of Us Program Offers
Salesforce’s Power of Us Program provides eligible nonprofits with donated Enterprise Edition licenses, along with discounts on additional products, training, and events.
Once this has been approved, organizations can request one of two license bundles:
- 10 Agentforce Nonprofit – Enterprise Edition licenses (formerly positioned as Nonprofit Cloud)
- 10 Sales and Service Cloud – Enterprise Edition licenses
It is important to clarify a current misconception – there is no such thing as “NPSP licenses”. NPSP is a suite of six managed packages that can be installed on top of Sales Cloud licenses in an Enterprise or Unlimited Edition org.
Organizations that choose the Sales and Service Cloud bundle can manually install NPSP if they wish to use that data model and functionality.
In other words, NPSP remains accessible and was never a license type but instead an installed suite of managed packages.
Agentforce 360 for Nonprofits
Salesforce has renamed what was previously known as Nonprofit Cloud to Agentforce Nonprofit. As most of us know, Agentforce represents Salesforce’s wider push into AI-driven workflows and automation, and these capabilities are actively being embedded across the entire Salesforce ecosystem – including its nonprofit offering.
NPSP continues to be available and supported by Salesforce, and nonprofits that rely on it today can continue to do so without any disruption.
However, the NPSP package is no longer receiving any new features or enhancements. Salesforce ended innovation on its managed package offerings, including NPSP, in March 2023 when it launched Nonprofit Cloud.
NPSP remains fully supported, meaning organizations can continue to operate it without any disruption, and they can get Salesforce support if they open a case about it. Yet, “supported” should not be confused with “actively developed”, as no new features have been added in the past three years, and none are planned going forward.
For nonprofits currently running NPSP, there is no requirement to migrate, but it may be sensible to consider how future roadmap decisions align with Salesforce’s current broader direction.
Final Thoughts
NPSP remains supported, and nonprofits can continue using it without any disruption. However, Salesforce ended feature development for NPSP in March 2023 when it launched Nonprofit Cloud (now Agentforce Nonprofit) – a decision that was separate from later product renaming. The only change at this time is that new orgs that qualify for donated product will not be offered a fully configured instance with NPSP.
In essence, NPSP is stable, but all future innovation is focused on Salesforce’s newer nonprofit platform. For nonprofits evaluating Salesforce for the first time or reviewing their CRM roadmap, that signal is definitely worth noting.
