Introducing Tableau Enterprise – New Data Governance Innovations

By Lucy Mazalon

Tableau has announced new capabilities to bolster its world-leading analytics platform, and solidify its reputation as the go-to choice for enterprise organizations.

The aim is to empowering everyone in large organizations with trusted and governed data, driving greater success with analytics, at scale.

Data governance is all about making data available (self-service analytics), while maintaining its integrity (accuracy, completeness, consistency), and remaining secure. Tableau enables organizations to report on data from different data sources; in an enterprise corporation, one can imagine how many data sources could be involved.

92% of companies are failing to scale analytics (McKinsey), and 87% of IT and business leaders are concerned that security and governance are slowing the pace of innovation (Mulesoft and Coleman Parkes Research).

Tableau enterprise offerings aim to mitigate data challenges, make self-service easier to scale, and easier to trust data:

Enabling Data Governance

Tableau Prep

Tableau data prep makes it easier for customers to reduce loads/costs of server resources automatically and generate rows to more easily map out trends in data.

Governance Capabilities

  • Will alert you of any potential issues
  • Provide visibility into the type of data you have and where it came from.

Centralized Row Level Security

Will allow Tableau administrators to centrally configure which users and groups have access to which slices of data configure access.

Analytics Scales with Enterprise Demand

Enterprise Reference Architecture

Enterprise Deployment Guidelines (EDG) provides the Tableau reference architecture for enterprise customers. EDG
a technology-agnostic methodology to achieve requirements around availability, scalability, and security.

Dynamic Scaling

Helps enterprises appropriately resource their deployment and ensures enough containers are available during peak demand times (and scale down during low demand times).

Resource Management

IT teams can better optimize the performance of Tableau Server by defining application resource limits.

Tableau Enterprise Subscription Plans

Enterprise customers can easily procure and deploy Tableau’s full capabilities. The new subscription level bundles analytics with Data Management and Server Management.

Tableau has long been a favorite to help individuals see and understand data. We’re making it easier for IT leaders to make it a favorite across the entire enterprise and deliver an end-to-end solution to leverage the full power of data analytics. Francois Ajenstat, Chief Product Officer, Tableau

Availability

  • Tableau 2021.3 release (Sept. 2021): Data prep and catalog improvements, along with the new subscription plans
  • The additional features will be available in the coming months.
