Are you like me and loving the new dark modes that are being brought out across different devices?

Dark Mode on devices such as OSX, iOS & Android have become popular in recent years, due to some of the proposed benefits. This includes less strain on your eyes and battery saving on mobile devices.

Salesforce dark mode can now be enabled thanks to a  Chrome Extension developed by Salesforce themselves.

Update Nov 8th, 2021: Salesforce Dark Mode is temporarily unavailable. Here’s hoping it will be back soon!

Enabling Salesforce Dark Mode

  1. Simply click on this link to take you to the Google Chrome store and click “Add to Chrome”
  2. Once added, click on the Lightning icon that gets added to the Chrome Toolbar (By the way, with the latest Chrome update the extension menu has been removed, follow this quick guide to add it again)
  3. Now you have the options to enable Salesforce Dark mode among other features!

Component Customization – This feature allows you to hide components on your home page or record pages. This is handy to share with users if they want to clean up their view. See full details here.

Link Grabber – Handy tool that means all Lightning Links will open in a single browser tab. See full details here.

It looks like that this Chrome extension will continue to be updated by Salesforce so stay tuned for more updates!

  1. What is not convincing me at all is the fact that I need to install a Chrome plugin to do that? Can anybody explain me “in detail” why? Would not be better to put that on your Salesforce user preferences and any user can just activated if they want.

    1. Because Salesforce attempted to add the feature themselves and hindered performance, so they removed it until further notice. So now your next best option is to use a 3rd party solution (Plugins, extensions, your own tweaks to your browser etc.) It is not an uncommon thing to do.

    1. Yes, you’re right – unfortunately that’s the case. We’ll be on the look-out for alternatives/updates! (they have said its temporarily unavailable, so here’s hoping!)

  2. Seems no one at SF is truly wanting to have Dark Mode available, Mostly all the apps I work on has the feature or they using dark gray backgrounds. Being an iSeries IBM developer I always worked with the black background and green writing, better know as the Green Screen. Any one know of another plugin that will allow the Dark mode to occur,
