Salesforce Engagement History: The Complete Overview [Infographic]

By Lindsey Mark

There are multiple ways to display Pardot engagement data in Salesforce. Engagement History is a collection of features that increases Pardot visibility across the Salesforce user experience.

With so many options for fields, components, and dashboards, are you maximizing these across your Salesforce org? If you’re a little confused, we don’t blame you. That’s why we put together this infographic which brings together all Engagement History features, and which objects they appear on, all in one view.

To find out how to implement Engagement History, check out the Salesforce implementation guide for details.

What you need to set up Engagement History:

  • Verified Pardot connector,
  • Connected Campaigns,
  • Correct Salesforce user permissions.

Engagement History Metrics Fields

Surface metrics on list views, as fields, or in custom reports to find out how campaigns and assets are performing.

Engagement History Objects

  • Marketing Assets Objects: Pardot marketing assets exist as records in Salesforce, thanks to the marketing asset objects. Metrics fields align to metrics for each type of asset (eg. only emails have open, or spam complaints)

Engagement History Related Lists

  • Engagement History Metrics related list: (Campaign Metrics) How marketing assets perform at a campaign-level. Displays Pardot asset performance connected to the campaign.
  • Engagement History Activities related list: (Prospect Activities) How different types of assets are being engaged with and when (at the contact/lead, account, or marketing asset level). Displays different data depending on where you are viewing it.

Engagement History Lightning Components

  • Engagement History Metrics Lightning Component: visually display marketing asset engagement (high-level) related to a campaign.
Engagement History Custom Lightning Component: visually display prospect engagement (Pardot activities) on Salesforce leads/contacts/person accounts.
Engagement History Dashboard Lightning Component: gives Salesforce users the
power to explore and visualize important data, embedded on record pages.

Hey I think there's a mistake in the infographic. At the end, what you have available for Campaigns, the referenced picture is correct but the title should be "Engagement History Dashboard Lightning Component" as opposed to "Engagement History Custom Lightning Component", as that one is only available on leads, accounts and person accounts. Let me know if I'm mistaken! Many thanks!

Hi Carola, thanks for pointing that out - you have eagle eyes for detail! Salesforce do refer to it with the name "Engagement History Custom Lightning Component” in their documentation but we will get this changed to match the name most commonly used (and that's used above in the infographic) :)

Hi, I'm trying to create a report in Salesforce with all the users that interacted with a specific email in Pardot. For example, I want to show a column with the name of the email campaign, another with the user's name and another column with the interaction itself (open, click, ...). Is that possible? If so, in which objects can I find this level of detail?

Hi Could you please let me know names of objects where data gets stored for Engagement History data on Contact for example. I queried task, taskfeed etc but could not find activities that are shown in engagement history related list. are you sure that it is stored in SFDC? I think it is stored in pardot and fetched on the fly using lightning component

Hello Could you please confirm if data is stored in Salesforce.com for Engagement History component ? As mentioned in your article data is stored in Salesforce.com, but when I query for data in task object i am unable to find it. Could you please confirm if data is stored in salesforce.com? I have business requirement to query engagement history data from apex code and do some processing based on that.

Thanks for this great article! I'm trying to figure out why/how engagement history is populating for our records in Salesforce WITHOUT having connected campaigns turned on. All documentation I've read so far indicates that this shouldn't be happening. I have no other settings turned on to enable this so I'm a little lost at this point. Any ideas would be appreciated! -Marcus

This article is fantastic! Thank you so much! I've been searching high and low to find out if Engagement History will still show up for a contact if they are removed from a segmentation list or campaign? Any help here?
