Salesforce Launches New AI National Security Unit Missionforce

By Sasha Semjonova

Amid winning US government contracts against Palantir and navigating customers facing Salesforce-specific data breaches, Salesforce has launched a brand new business unit: Missionforce.

With a particular focus on national security, Missionforce will incorporate AI into defense workflows and teams, TechCrunch reported

What Is Missionforce?

Missionforce is being heralded as a new business arm of the CRM giant dedicated to meeting the needs of defense, intelligence, and aerospace agencies. It will be split into three main areas: personnel, logistics, and decision-making.

It will be led by Kendall Collins, the CEO of Government Cloud, and will build upon the foundational aspects of the cloud as well as Agentforce for Public Sector.

“This new initiative will harness the power of AI agents to transform U.S. defense, intelligence, and aerospace – supercharging logistics, personnel support, and decision-making to accelerate mission readiness, drive efficiency, and deliver taxpayer savings,” Collins said on LinkedIn.

“The goal is simple: to help our warfighters and the organizations that support them operate smarter, faster, and more efficiently. There’s never been a more important time to serve those who serve.”

Collins also said that for those in the relevant agencies who already work with Salesforce, there will be no change in the accounts people at the company that they interact with. Instead, Missionforce’s specific goal is to strengthen existing commitments, which may include more tailored products.

Expanding on Salesforce’s Government Work

This particular expansion does not broach into new territory for Salesforce – they have held contracts with the US Government for many years across the US Army, Navy, and Air Force.

However, this move is perhaps more pertinent now due to the CRM giant’s growing competition with Palantir, especially as Salesforce’s CEO, Marc Benioff, went on record to talk about the company’s “tremendous success” against Palantir in winning a US Government contract over them.

The announcement of Missionforce might very well be another competitive action from Salesforce, showing investors that they have a keen focus on their government contracts and perhaps solidifying that their proprietary AI Agentforce has some credible use cases

This also comes after other companies within Salesforce’s AI realm have expanded their own government offerings, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google

Mounting Security Concerns

Although it is clear that Salesforce has a new laser focus for its AI suite, it is impossible to ignore that the CRM leader has been under mounting pressure to prove itself and its solutions as secure amid continuous data breaches.

With security being such a mission-critical aspect for contracts within the US government and other government agencies, Salesforce will hopefully be aware that rebuilding that trust is key, and new/updated security measures will likely need to be in place.

Final Thoughts

With the flagship conference Dreamforce now a month away, Salesforce is gearing up to give Agentforce its next big push. Establishing the tool as a well-received and well-used one will be key for the company, and Salesforce will likely be hoping Missionforce helps them to achieve this.

We will likely hear more about the results of Missionforce at the conference.
