How to Navigate Salesforce Marketing Certifications in 2026

By Ran Michael

Updated January 08, 2026

The Growth and Advanced editions of Marketing Cloud Next – the newest Marketing Stack by Salesforce – are redefining the knowledge expected from Salesforce Marketers in 2026. Along with buzzwords and product renames like “Agentforce Marketing”, expectations from marketers are continuously evolving.

As Salesforce accelerates its push to make this new stack fully enterprise-ready, built on the Data 360 infrastructure (formerly Data Cloud), the momentum is unmistakable. With features like Private IPs now available for organizations sending over 5M emails per month, the direction is clearer than ever.

In a previous article I authored last winter, we all saw it coming. We witnessed Salesforce:

  • Offer free Marketing Cloud Growth/Advanced licenses to any Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (formerly Pardot) customer shortly after the product launched in February 2024.
  • Prioritize SI Partners with accelerator programs and free access to Data Cloud certifications and training.
  • Make AI (now Agentforce) certifications free throughout 2025.

The point of this new product line (and its key catch) is that it’s built on Core, using native standard objects like Lead, Contact, Account, and Opportunity. For the first time in Salesforce’s history, the Marketing product doesn’t depend on external APIs or third-party systems for data syncing.

On top of that, the BYOL (Bring Your Own Lake) capability lets marketers reference data stored in external systems like Snowflake, for example, with zero-copy access. Anyone who worked with either MCAE (Pardot) or Marketing Cloud Engagement (ExactTarget) has experienced limitations, many of which stem from the API-based architecture dependency. Consolidating everything into one platform was greatly anticipated – it solves many issues and streamlines data.

So, now that we have a clear product direction and roadmap, it is clear that our hard-earned MCAE Specialist/Consultant or MCE Email Specialist/Admin/Dev/Consultant will no longer be enough to secure our long-term future as Marketers. Which raises the inevitable question: How do we, marketers and consultants, adapt?

Where Should A Marketer Start the 2026 Certification Journey?

Every marketer who wants to stay relevant needs to ask herself/himself: “Which certificate will make the most impact on my career?”

We need to map out our direction and choose our next steps, because the alternative is accepting that we’ll be replaced, either by a younger marketer eager to learn or by AI and Agents.

Among the factors that need to be considered are:

  • The certificates you already hold and your current experience.
  • Your desired next role.
  • Utility in day-to-day tasks (which defines your market worth).
  • Level of difficulty of each certification.
  • Costs.

For cost, it’d be useful to know that all certification tests at these levels have the same cost, except for Salesforce Certified Platform Foundation, which is cheaper.

Since a lot has been written on the Marketing Cloud Engagement and Marketing Cloud Account Engagement certifications – and it’s all valid for the foreseeable future to help you in your day-to-day tasks for the next few years – in the remainder of this article, we’ll tackle a new angle: focus on the value of “core” certifications for Marketers, also reviewing utility and level of difficulty.

We have reviewed and ranked the five most useful Marketers certifications in the Data 360 and AI era, to help you compare their utility and difficulty to ones you’ve already earned.

Why Get Certified?

The benefits of certifications could be a post in itself. The first, obvious reason that comes to mind is career advancement and credibility for anyone in the Salesforce consulting industry, demonstrating your commitment to this career path while enhancing client confidence to assure they are in good hands.

But what if you are simply a Salesforce Marketing user (not a consultant)? You already proved your worth when you got hired and over the years in the company, right?

For users who aren’t following a consultant path, one major benefit of certifications is the structured learning journey they provide – and the noticeable boost in productivity that comes with it. After working with dozens of clients over the years, we’ve consistently observed a significant productivity gap between certified and non-certified users.

Certifications encourage continuous skill enhancement and discovery of new, valuable features that will make your day-to-day life easier and save you time.

In other words, if you feel that you have become too comfortable in your role, always bear in mind that you don’t know what you don’t know. Following a structured path will open your eyes to things you’ll never know you should have Googled before!

The third, and just as important reason, is… fun! Trailhead integrates gamification and badges, and while the exam itself might be stressful for some, getting the immediate feedback (Result: Pass) is gratifying. Plus, it gives you community access and networking opportunities, in which you can boost your confidence in conversations and quickly become a guide to newer users. Put the work in, and get rewarded.

A recent article written by my pen pal, Hamza Abib, treats this issue well.

Essential Certifications for Marketers in 2026

Whether a marketer comes from the world of Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot) or Marketing Cloud Engagement (SFMC, ExactTarget), to stay relevant in this ever-evolving AI-Powered world, one must shift skills.

A lot has been said about career paths on these platforms, and their respective matching certifications, yet, we are missing out on the shift marketers are already seeing to core, and how to prepare for it.

Let’s dive in!

1. Salesforce Certified Platform Foundations

While this will not directly contribute to your Market value, this entry-level certification is a great way to get introduced to Trailhead learning and the Salesforce exam structure, which can contribute to your confidence when you kick off your learning.

If you already hold another Salesforce certification, we’d say you can confidently skip it.

2. Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator

For many, this is the first Salesforce certification, and is often failed on the first attempt. Salesforce put the bar high in terms of areas covered and practical experience needed in order to succeed in this exam.

If you aim to work on Agentforce Marketing (Marketing Cloud Next – Growth/Advanced), this actually becomes a must-have. A good knowledge of Flow requires structured learning and practice, and will come in very handy for any Marketer who wants to do more than newsletters.

You’ll have to fully understand profiles, permissions, Salesforce Apps, tabs, and who sees what to correctly configure Marketing Cloud for yourself and other users in the company, while understanding why certain users don’t have access to specific features, and how to fix it promptly.

Verdict: Passing this exam clearly increases your confidence and value in the market. It is also a prerequisite to many other certifications, like Sales Cloud Consultant and Service Cloud Consultant. A must-have for any serious marketer in 2026.

3. Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder

Another entry-level certificate, usually taken by those who would like to follow a CRM Developer career. While holding this certificate is not going to impress any employer or add to your market value, it comes in handy in day-to-day work – knowing how easy it is to make your daily life more efficient by adding buttons, global actions, related lists, and other elements to Salesforce records and lists.

Besides, studying for this one is a lot of fun!

Verdict: Not a must-have for a Marketer, but a fun one, easy, and useful.

4. Salesforce Certified Sales Cloud Consultant

Easier than its prerequisite, Salesforce Administrator, this certificate is all about proving understanding of Sales processes and Sales Cloud configuration.

This certification is very worth the investment, as it adds a lot of value and confidence in the eyes of employers. The Consultant level separates problem solvers from pure admins.

In 2026, a well-rounded Marketer must understand the Lead-Source-to-Opportunity-Won schema to correctly design and implement tracking and solutions. Understanding features like Sales processes, opportunity teams, and Campaign attribution is what will take any marketer (and her/his company) to the next level.

Verdict: A definitive asset to your career, and a pivot opportunity in case you get tired of Marketing, which is an extra employment security.

5. Salesforce Certified Data Cloud Consultant

A Consultant-level certificate, essential for any Marketer who would like to work on the newest technology stack behind Salesforce Marketing.

Marketers know that data is the fuel for marketing. Well-structured, clean data is the foundation for any campaign. A good marketer knows how to harness and leverage that data – a great marketer understands how to structure it for their needs.

Since the power behind the new age of Agentic Marketing on the Salesforce stack is Data 360, understanding the tools in your belt is the most important priority. The Data Cloud certification will take you through all the different steps and available toolset to get data ready for campaigns: Ingestion, Transformation, Harmonization, Unification, and Action.

Verdict: A must-have. As a marketer, this becomes handy in your day-to-day work when you need to bring in a new data source or create a new data point for yourself by acting on the data model.

Final Thoughts

Looking ahead, 2026 is promised to be an exciting year for Salesforce Marketers!

As companies transition to Agentic Marketing, a well-rounded Salesforce Marketer must have both CRM and Data 360 skills to stay ahead of the human and AI curves.

As adoption grows, we expect to see new certifications pop up to cover Marketing Cloud Next / Agentic Marketing within the next 24 months or less.

Until that happens, our recommendation for Marketers is to start looking at the Data Cloud Consultant and the Salesforce Administrator certifications and put them on your 2026 calendar for your success.

Once you conquer the foundations of Salesforce core and Data 360, you will be ready to explore the latest innovations in Agentforce. Make sure you don’t skip these foundational deep understandings, as it will only keep you back.
