Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, a technology provider dedicated to building solutions to enable critical logistics and sustainment operations for the US military and allied nations.

This acquisition is expected to expand on the work of Salesforce’s Missionforce arm and marks the company’s most significant national security-focused acquisition to date.

What Is Rune Technologies?

Rune Technologies specializes in Military Sustainment Mission Command Technology, according to its website, with the tagline: “Logistics wins wars. Rune wins logistics.” TyrOS, its operating system for sustainment, is the backbone of its operations, leveraging AI for “decision support, predictive analytics, and optimization at machine speed”.

This technology helps frontline teams forecast supply needs, optimize resources, and make mission-critical decisions, even in frontline environments with little or no connectivity.

What Does This Mean for Salesforce?

Rune’s capabilities are expected to enhance the work that Missionforce – Salesforce’s military business arm – currently does, with purpose-built AI (SI) for national security logistics. It is expected to specifically benefit Missionforce Operations and its ability to automate complex enterprise processes, says Salesforce.

This acquisition also pushes Salesforce further into the world of Govtech, highlighting the company’s deliberate efforts to become a top company within government and defense. One year after its launch, Salesforce claims its defense business is growing 80% year over year, with customers spanning all six branches of the US military. Acquiring Rune marks its most significant national security buy to date.

“Salesforce is doubling down on national security with our most significant acquisition in this space,” said Kendall Collins, President and CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce. “Missionforce is already helping defense organizations modernize operational readiness.

“Rune Technologies extends that work into frontline logistics, bringing agent-powered capabilities to the tactical edge – keeping equipment, supplies, and personnel moving. Together, we’ll advance our vision for an edge-to-enterprise platform that supports continuous mission readiness.”

Final Thoughts

Salesforce has been on quite the Govtech run this year, and adding Rune to its portfolio only solidifies the company’s dedication to this particular sector.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
