Unlocking No-Cost Marketing Functionality With Salesforce Foundations

One of the most powerful Salesforce implementations you can embark on for your business is CRM to marketing.

For many businesses, this is imperative, but others may have struggled with this functionality due to clunky systems or a lack of clarity around custom integrations. Enter Salesforce Foundations.

Salesforce and Marketing

For many of you reading this, connecting marketing platforms to Salesforce – whether through third-party integrations or Salesforce’s own suite of products – has probably become second nature.

The upside is clear: when your CRM data flows seamlessly from prospect to lead to opportunity to cash, the benefits are endless.

But the flip side is just as real. Choosing a marketing platform that demands heavy integration work, constant maintenance, or simply isn’t built for Salesforce can create major headaches for your customer-facing teams.

That’s where Salesforce Foundations comes in. Launched last year, this no-cost add-on for all Enterprise customers (and above) unlocks a wealth of functionality across Data Cloud, Agentforce, Marketing Cloud Next, Commerce Cloud, and more.

Let’s take a closer look…

Deep Dive: Marketing Functionality

Salesforce Foundations can be installed at zero cost in minutes. Check out our full guide to Foundations for instructions on how to get started.

Once installed and configured, you’ll have a brand-new marketing application native inside your Salesforce instance. At a high level, the marketing functionality inside Foundations includes:

  1. Drag-and-drop email builder
  2. 2,000 monthly sends
  3. Full Flow functionality to build customer journeys
  4. Built-in analytics and dashboards
  5. List and targeted campaign builder

For businesses that are getting started with their marketing journey or that want to experiment with a tool that has seamless integration into their Salesforce data, Foundations is the place to start.

Although Salesforce Foundations is a no-cost package, it delivers a huge amount of functionality you would expect from any marketing automation platform. In the next four sections, we’ll dive into some of the most exciting areas of this new product and what you can expect.

1. Campaigns

At the heart of Salesforce Foundations’ marketing experience are campaigns – a way to manage your targeted lists, content, and automation all in one place. Each campaign can be as simple or sophisticated as you need, with flows running behind the scenes to automate key steps in the customer journey.

Some highlights of Campaign functionality include:

  • Multiple starting points: Choose from single emails, message series, signup forms, or event-triggered flows.
  • Content builder: Drag-and-drop email and landing page creation with reusable components and branded templates.
  • Consent management built-in: Update and sync consent data to stay compliant with regulations like CAN-SPAM.

2. Segments

Getting your campaign in front of the right people is just as important as the message itself. With segmentations in Foundations, you can easily define and target the audiences in your Ideal Customer Profile.

Whether that’s a campaign around lapsed contacts, high-value leads, or brand-new signups, highlights include:

  • Quick filters: Instantly build segments using 11 preconfigured filters (e.g. no recent engagement, specific contact type) and simple logic.
  • Campaign members: Add leads and contacts directly to campaigns and send messages to that curated list.
  • Segment Builder: Create advanced segments with custom criteria for more sophisticated targeting.
  • Unified individual records: Reduce duplicates by consolidating records with matching email addresses into one profile.

3. Segment-Triggered Campaign Flows

Once we build the campaign, we can automate journeys and nurture with Salesforce Flow.

Segment-Triggered Flows let you send messages to the right audience, at the right time, based on their segment. Highlights include:

  • Single-message flows: Configure and send one email or SMS directly from the campaign record, with the option to send immediately or schedule for later.
  • Message series flows: Create a multi-email sequence, customize content for each step, and manage the schedule in Flow Builder.
  • Real-time refresh: Choose to republish segment data immediately before a Flow runs to guarantee you’re targeting the most up-to-date audience.

4. Einstein Send Time Optimization

Even the best-crafted message can underperform if it lands in an inbox at the wrong time. But with Einstein Send Time Optimization, Foundations uses AI to determine the best moment to deliver each email.

Einstein analyzes past engagement patterns and makes smart, data-driven predictions to send every message at the right time. Highlights include:

  • AI-powered timing: Automatically predicts the optimal send time for each individual contact based on the past 90 days of email engagement history.
  • Personalized delivery: Adjusts to each recipient’s behavior rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all schedule.
  • Continuous learning: Models refresh weekly, incorporating the latest activity data to improve accuracy over time.

Your Path to Upgrading

Salesforce Foundations is your gateway to exploring Salesforce’s suite of products for a full Customer 360 approach. It gives you the ability to get started using best practice approaches to marketing to your prospects using the power of the Salesforce platform.

But when the time comes that you inevitably need more support, Salesforce has your back.

Foundations has been built in a way that you can upgrade to Salesforce’s more powerful on-core marketing suite, Marketing Cloud Next.

This opens up the ability to…

  • Unlock new features such as forms and landing pages, web tracking, and more AI-powered tools.
  • Store more data through the Salesforce Data Cloud.
  • Activate a large number of Flows for more customer journey experiences.

So if you’re worried about using Foundations and needing to re-implement a new marketing tool, don’t be! The upgrade path is baked into the product.

Final Thoughts

No matter where you are on your CRM and marketing journey, Salesforce has created a tool that businesses of any size can use, with functionality from their Enterprise suite of products.

Salesforce Foundations can be installed at no cost for Sales Cloud & Service Cloud Enterprise customers (and above) in just minutes. Whether you are looking for new functionality for your marketing, sales, or service team, or want to bulk up your AI readiness with Data Cloud and Agentforce, Foundations is a must-have in 2025.
