Salesforce is acquiring Loops – an AI-powered analytics platform that monitors business performance, explains changes in metrics, and surfaces opportunities to improve through the use of machine learning models.

The CRM company plans to use Loops’ technology and specialized talent to boost Tableau, helping customers uncover insights and make smarter decisions from their data. The acquisition is expected to close in early November of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027.

What Is Loops?

Loops is a startup founded in 2020, based in Foster City, California, with fewer than 50 employees.

Its AI analytics agent, Scout, is meant to empower stakeholders with self-serve analytics and clear, causal insights, instantly.

The company says its tools can empower anyone to ask questions and get insights, and receive Agentic AI-powered Alerts and Insight Summaries pushed to their Slack, MS Teams, and email.

“Unlike typical Gen AI tools that hallucinate, Scout by Loops’ Agentic AI monitors your KPIs and delivers accurate, causal insights you can trust,” the company claims on its website.

Salesforce says that Loops’ AI will enhance Tableau, providing explanations of why certain things took place and what to do next. It added that this acquisition will advance its agentic analytics strategy to help customers identify what’s driving business performance.

Loops can be triggered from within Slack and email, so key performance indicators can be continuously monitored, with trends and anomalies identified.

Mark Recher, EVP & GM, Tableau, said: “Tableau’s mission has been helping people see, understand, and act on data. Loops accelerates this mission, using powerful agentic AI to uncover the drivers behind business performance and surface where teams and agents can take action in real time.

“Following close, we look forward to bringing these capabilities to Tableau and helping customers turn insights into action faster.”

Tom Laufer, CEO and Co-Founder of Loops, said: “We built Loops around a simple idea: analytics should help businesses understand what drives their results and decide what to do next.

“Salesforce and Tableau share our vision for making actionable analytics accessible for every organization. Together, we’ll have the opportunity to bring what we’ve built to customers at an entirely new scale.”

Final Thoughts

This latest acquisition points to a broader shift in the analytics market. Businesses increasingly want tools that can do more than just present dashboards and reports. By bringing AI-powered monitoring and causal analysis into Tableau, Salesforce hopes to boost its customers’ understanding of not just what’s happening, but why it’s happening.

The challenge will be turning that promise into actual value for customers. Picking out anomalies and explaining changes in performance is certainly useful, but the real test will be whether Tableau can actually deliver reliable insights that lead to better decisions and measurable business outcomes.
