Salesforce to Change the Name of 35 Certifications: What You Need to Know

Salesforce has announced that it will be changing the names of 35 certifications as part of its “new certification experience,” which will see all certifications moving away from WebAssessor and onto Trailhead Academy.
This renaming initiative has also been cited as a decision made to “provide a consistent naming structure across the entire catalog of Salesforce certifications”, according to Salesforce.
Which Certifications Are Being Renamed?
Over 30 certifications are being renamed in a variety of remits, including administrators, architects, developers, consultants, sales professionals, and more. Here are the specific certifications:

What Do I Need to Know Now?
Although this can seem like a lot of change to quite a lot of Salesforce certifications, the actual effects of these changes will be minimal. Most certification names have been adjusted to reflect the “Salesforce Certified” element that will allow for better consistency across the board.
Salesforce has said that professionals do not need to re-earn their certifications despite the name changes, and that Trailblazer profiles will be updated automatically to reflect the new names.
If you have opted to display your certifications in the verification system, the new certification name will display with the original date that your certification was earned. To verify your certifications in the new experience, click into the “Certifications” tab. The option to “Verify Certifications” will appear.
Additionally, the new certification names will be automatically updated in your Partner Navigator Score.
Summary
These new certification names will hopefully help Salesforce improve clarity, consistency, and understanding of how certifications link to their specific Salesforce products.
However, there has also been some backlash due to the sheer number of changes, with some professionals already frustrated, calling this decision unnecessary, confusing, or a bad marketing choice.
It will take some time to adjust to these changes, but with some luck, Salesforce will aim to make the transition as smooth as possible.
