Agentforce 2dx Revealed: Salesforce Launches New Capabilities for AI Suite

By Henry Martin

Salesforce has announced a new and improved version of its flagship AI called Agentforce 2dx.

The cloud giant unveiled the latest update – which gives Agentforce the ability to operate autonomously in the background of “any business process” – at Trailblazer DX in San Francisco, California this week, where a wave of Salesforce news has been revealed.

What Is Agentforce 2dx?

In Salesforce’s own words, Agentforce 2dx enables proactive AI agents to “work behind the scenes, without constant human oversight, to unlock new customer and employee workflows of any kind”.

The cloud giant says that, with Agentforce 2dx, organizations can now seamlessly integrate autonomous agents into their data systems, business logic, and user interfaces, allowing agents to anticipate what is needed and dynamically take action.

Salesforce says admins and developers now have even more capabilities to embed Agentforce “anywhere” and adjust it to fit specific use cases. This is thanks to the new tools, including:

  • Agentforce API: Agentforce can be integrated into back-end processes, other systems, and directly into applications, meaning customers can trigger an agent when an ERP order is created.
  • Agentforce Invocable Actions: Agentforce can also be embedded within Salesforce business logic, like Flow and Apex, meaning customers can blend classic workflow automation with agentic reasoning.
  • MuleSoft for Agentforce: MuleSoft Topic Center lets developers use natural language to create topics and actions for agents from MuleSoft APIs. The MuleSoft API Catalog simplifies the development of agents by centralizing access to diverse APIs from MuleSoft, Salesforce, and Heroku within Agentforce. And, the MuleSoft Agentforce connector lets developers integrate Agentforce into existing workflows, enabling APIs and integrations to trigger agents for data enrichment and action execution across systems.
  • Agentforce Steps in Slack Workflow Builder: This lets developers embed Agentforce into no-code automations in Slack. Agentforce can be triggered from Slack events, and Slack conversational context can be passed back to Agentforce without relying on user-initiated action.
  • Agentforce Employee Template: This lets customers create multiple employee agents that can be configured and deployed across any line of business.
  • Agentforce Surfaces: Deliver rich content within Agentforce across all Digital Engagement channels, adding dynamic, interactive components and media that are channel and device-specific to better customize how Agentforce shows up across channels.
  • Agentforce Cards: Lightning web components can be embedded within the response of Agentforce actions; reuse existing Salesforce components to provide more context, information, and functionality to Agentforce.
  • Tableau Semantics: Create organized data structures – semantic models – which Agentforce can take advantage of. Tableau uses real-time business context to enrich agents so they can give more accurate insights and answers.

The full release of Agentforce 2dx will be generally available in April 2025. Specific features are being released in advance, beginning this week.

New Tools to Configure, Test, and Deploy Agentforce

Agentforce also includes new pro-code and low-code tools intended to help admins and developers ideate, build, deploy, and supervise Agentforce.

Salesforce says these tools – which are part of the unified Salesforce Platform – are fully integrated into the workflows developers use every day, such as DevOps Center and the Command Line Interface (CLI).

Salesforce offers the Agentforce Developer Edition – a free environment where devs can try out agents using Agentforce and explore the capabilities of Data Cloud – to experiment with these tools.

The company has also announced AgentExchange, a marketplace and community for Agentforce which is built into Salesforce.

With AI assistance in Agent Builder, teams can put Agentforce into production faster and with more confidence using AI-powered topics and instruction creation to help quickly configure agents.

Using the Testing Center, Salesforce says teams can easily try out their Agentforce configurations at scale using AI, and automatically generate and run test cases in their Salesforce Sandbox.

Devs can also now create, update, and test Agentforce configurations using the CLI and VS code. All aspects of Agentforce configurations can be created and updated using pro-code tools, and test cases are able to be run against these configurations.

And with DX Inspector, Salesforce says you can explore and understand all of the metadata and data used by Agentforce inside your Salesforce Sandbox.

Agentforce Interaction Explorer provides detailed reporting and analytics about how agents are performing, from general trends down to individual session tracing.

Adam Evans, EVP and GM of Salesforce’s AI Platform, said: “Companies today have more work than workers, and Agentforce is stepping in to fill the gap. By extending digital labor beyond CRM, we’re making it easier than ever for businesses to embed agentic AI into any workflow or application to handle routine tasks, augment employees, and connect with customers.

“With deep integrations across Salesforce’s digital labor platform, CIOs, IT leaders, and developers can seamlessly build agents and automate work wherever it happens, driving efficiency, fueling innovation, and unlocking new opportunities in the $6 trillion digital labor market.”

Final Thoughts

It’s not quite ‘Agentforce 3.0’, but Agentforce 2dx certainly seems to be bringing a lot more functionality to Salesforce’s flagship AI product, which the cloud giant clearly wants to have integrated into as much of their product suite as possible.

Trailblazer DX was the perfect place to announce these new capabilities, and forward-looking ecosystem members might be left wondering what else is in store for Agentforce in seven months’ time when we gather for the biggest event of the Salesforce year – Dreamforce 2025.
