23 Salesforce Apps Professionals Can’t Live Without

By Andreea Doroftei

Whether they are on our phones, installed in our Salesforce orgs, or added as an extension onto our browser, apps are everywhere!

In fact, a lot of us couldn’t imagine doing our jobs without some of the many apps we use on a day-to-day basis. The Salesforce Ben team has previously curated a list of Chrome Extensions, as well as apps for Salesforce Consultants. However, now we’ve asked Salesforce professionals which apps they just can’t live without. Let’s check them out…

23 Top Salesforce Apps

The apps listed below were crowdsourced from social media, and we weren’t surprised to see a few familiar ones that just kept popping up. These apps are roughly ordered by the number of times they were mentioned by different individuals.

23. Better Salesforce Formula Editor

We’re starting off with an extremely helpful Chrome Extension, which is intuitively named Better Salesforce Formula Editor. The functionality is presented as an additional tab within your formula editor, and while you would think it’s only an option for formula fields, it’s also available when writing the formula for your validation rules!

This app makes writing formulas much easier and faster. The autocomplete functionality will help with syntax as well as field names, for example, and you will know if there are any spelling errors in real time.

22. Cloud Toolkit

Cloud Toolkit contains a bunch of different apps built on the Heroku platform, designed by CTA, Ben Edwards. The apps include “Org Doctor” to view the health of an org, as well as Org Compare, to see a visual representation of the differences between two Salesforce orgs.

21. Maven Tools for Salesforce

Maven Tools is our second Chrome extension on the list, and is described as “one tool to rule them all! An ever-growing collection of Salesforce developer tools”.

Maven Tools includes the following features: Query Editor, Event Hub, Rest Console, Org Limits, and many more…

20. FuseKit

FuseKit is another multi-functional toolkit that is positioned as “the most powerful Salesforce productivity tool you’ll ever use”.

Features include a data loader and an org comparison, as well as a way to work with multiple Salesforce orgs.

19. Salesforce Advanced Code Searcher

A very handy app (right on your setup homepage) that often makes it into our “Top Salesforce Chrome Extensions” post.

Advanced Code Searcher allows you to quickly search through your instance’s Apex classes, triggers, and Visualforce pages.

18. Loom

Whilst Loom isn’t an exclusive Salesforce app, it is a must-have for Trailblazers.

Quickly create videos of your screen or individual tabs whilst also recording yourself on camera if desired. This is fantastic for showing users how to perform a function, or recording a bug to show your development team – you may have noticed that we also enjoy this tool quite a lot!

17. Salesforce Change Set Helper

Change Set frustration can be a common occurrence in the world of Salesforce if you are still using this option to deploy changes between environments. Make things easier for yourself by using the Change Set Helper that enables some extra features when selecting the components to deploy.

16. Grammarly

A personal favorite of mine, Grammarly is a must for any professional, regardless of background. Grammarly simply goes beyond what native browser spell check can do to ensure you never make a grammar or spelling mistake again.

15. Password Managers

If you use dozens of apps a day, or work with multiple Salesforce clients, it’s almost impossible to keep up with your credentials for every app you use. Enter ‘password managers’.

Tools like LastPass and 1Password take the hard work out of passwords and manage everything for you with a singular “Master Password” (just make sure it’s a good one!).

14. Texei for SFDX

This plugin has been developed by French-based consultancy, Texei, and aims to enhance SFDX.

It includes the ability to activate Shared Activities, and pause and resume sharing rule calculations, as well as import and export data into a Scratch org. You can read more on their blog here.

13. Enhanced Lightning Grid

The Enhanced Lighting Grid is a Salesforce Labs app that allows you to add a new type of component to a Lightning Page. This component can be used to sort and filter related lists in a style that looks the same as Lightning.

12. Own

Own is the world’s largest Salesforce backup service, and they also have functionality for data archiving and seeding.

Sandbox seeding was specifically called out in our research as being a feature that is impossible to live without.

11. Gearset

Gearset is a comprehensive DevOps platform that aims to make Salesforce deployments a delight (instead of a burden). If you’ve ever struggled with a Salesforce deployment before, be sure to check them out – not only is the platform easy to use, but it also allows you a detailed level of customization, even Slack notifications, for successes or failures in your pipeline.

10. Happy Soup

HappySoup.io is a 100% free and open-source app for impact and dependency analysis that is sure to make your life as a Salesforce professional handling a lot of changes significantly easier.

The value comes from a minimalist UI and support for dependencies that are not possible to retrieve manually. For example, standard field references or indirect dependencies through custom labels and custom metadata types.

9. Field Trip

Field Trip is another tool that is used by thousands of Salesforce professionals around the world.

It gives you the ability to report on field usage, allowing you to identify unused fields that can be deleted, merged, or realigned to business processes.

8. Declarative Lookup Rollup Summaries

A favorite amongst veteran Salesforce professionals, Declarative Lookup Rollup Summaries enhances Salesforce by allowing you to perform Rollups on Lookup relationships – previously only possible using Apex.

DLRS has a user interface that allows you to build out these Rollups, for which no code is needed. Install the package right here.

7. Rollup/Lookup Helper

Whilst DLRS can work for a lot of organizations, it is also open-source and no support is provided. If you are looking for something with more support, check our two AppExchange Apps: Lookup Helper and Rollup Helper

6. XL Connector

XL Connector is the go-to tool when you need to sync Salesforce and your spreadsheets. With this handy plugin, you can import, export, and auto-refresh Salesforce data via Excel or Google Sheets (G-Connector).

EasyCRUD is a super simple app that allows you to see permission access directly on the object. It also contains features to select all checkboxes in a column.

4. Boostr for Salesforce

Boostr is another very popular, multi-functional Chrome extension that is packed with features.

This includes simple but effective features such as displaying the API name of a field when editing a field set, and allowing you to select all components on a page to add to a change set.

3. Apsona

Apsona is another Salesforce Swiss army knife app that contains a bunch of different functionalities.

These include document generation, cross-object reporting across any number of objects, and mass import and export functionality.

2. Salesforce ORGanizer

Appearing numerous times in our research, Salesforce ORGanizer is another Chrome extension that is loved by thousands of Salesforce professionals around the world.

It combines many Chrome extensions into one, and includes storing logins and changing tab colors to identify different instances of Salesforce – all to avoid confusing them when multiple tabs are open.

1. Salesforce Inspector

Every time we asked the Salesforce community for the apps that they just couldn’t live without, the overwhelming majority of people mentioned Salesforce Inspector. This is also the extension that sits at the top of our top Chrome Extensions post, with the highest number of users.

Salesforce Inspector is a Chrome extension that sits on top of the standard Salesforce UI to deliver some simple but impactful features. This includes showing field metadata, data export, data import, and much more!

While Salesforce Inspector is the original extension most Salesforce professionals already know and love, it’s worth taking a look at Salesforce Inspector Reloaded as well, which offers a few extra functionalities such as helpful links within the Objects tab, a friendlier query and import interface, and more!
