New Salesforce Certifications for 2016

w7fosdem2016 has been a big year for Salesforce University, certifications and education in general. We’ve seen Salesforce dedicate Dreamforce to the “Trailblazer”, a complete rebrand for Salesforce U and a more formalised training program for the budding CTA’s (Certified Technical Architects). To top it off, we also have some shiny new logo’s for our certifications making this the 3rd evolution!

Salesforce University now offers 6 different roles (Certification tracks), 22 certifications and over 100 training resources. In this post I’m going to look at the new certifications on offer and how they can help advance your career. One of the biggest changes this year has been the introduction of the Architect role, this has brought with it fresh certifications and a more structured learning path for professionals that want to advance their careers to become a CTA.

Implementation Experts

The Implementation Expert role is one who can combine technical expertise, with consultative business knowledge to form amazing Salesforce solutions. This certain certification track has been around for a while but this year has introduced two new certifications.

Community Cloud Consultant

Salesforce Communities were announced back in 2014 and have since become the successor to the old self service portals. Communities give you the ability to extend your Salesforce platform to customers or partners by allowing them access to their own personalised sub-section of your own Salesforce instance. Giving you full control over what they can see, do and access.

The Community platform has become extremely powerful over the past couple of years, allowing Administrators and Consultants to create great looking, branded communities using mostly declarative tools and preformed templates.

The Community Cloud Consultant Certification is designed for users who have experience implementing the product in multiple scenarios for different customers. Potential candidates of this certification should be able to create and configure Communities as well as troubleshoot and give various options based on a scenario.

Marketing Cloud Consultant

The Salesforce Marketing Cloud came to be with the acquisition of ExactTarget for $2.5 billion in 2013. The Marketing Cloud is primarily a B2C marketing platform that allows you to build powerful customer journeys to guide them through the Sales process. You can push marketing notifications via a variety of social mediums including Email, Mobile, Social, Web and Advertising through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.

We saw the release of two Marketing Cloud certifications last year which included the Email and Social specialist. The year, the Marketing Cloud Consultant certifications focuses much more on implementing the Marketing Cloud for various clients as opposed to just being able to use it. Potential candidates must be about to use different tools such as content areas, automation and segmentation, as well as troubleshooting and solving various issues.

Architects

A few years ago when the coveted Certified Technical Architect certification was released, it remained very elusive for a large number of Salesforce professionals. The certification required a self assessment test, multiple choice exam and an assignment with board review, of which I’ve heard the pass rate is extremely low. This added with the fact that there was almost no revision resources for this made the certification out of reach for a lot of people.screen-shot-2016-12-11-at-11-57-39

Salesforce has now formalised the program in a lot more structured way. They have released a number of Architect certifications which are now prerequisites to achieve the Certified Application Architect & Certified System Architect

Certified Application & System Architect

The Application & System Architect exams have been brought onboard to give professionals a stepping stone to the CTA exam. The specialisations which we will go into below cover a range of different topics which are either split into the Application or System path. Upon earning all specialisations in a certain track, you will automatically be awarded either the Application Architect or System Architect certification. Upon completion of both, you will be a certified Domain Architect

The Domain Architect certification is a prerequisite to be eligible to take the Certified Technical Architect. The final hurdle to jump at this stage is to pass the Review board.

  1. Do they change all the questions for each test cycle? I realize the concepts are probably very similar but do they rotate to new questions each test season?
